How to Keep Flowers Fresh With Bleach in Flower Water

When microorganisms multiply in plain vase water, they block the flower stem and make it hard for the stem to absorb water for nutrients — causing wilt and odors! Adding  Clorox® Disinfecting Concentrated Bleach kills these microorganisms to ensure that your flower bloom lasts.

How to Keep Flowers Fresh With Bleach in Flower Water

With a couple cents worth of  Clorox® Disinfecting Concentrated Bleach, flowers can last longer and water doesn’t get funky as fast. Here’s how:

  1. Mix
    Mix Using gloves, add ¼ teaspoon of Clorox® Disinfecting Concentrated Bleach to every 1.26L of water you use in the flower vase and stir to mix.
  2. Cut
    Cut Unwrap the bouquet and cut a little off the bottom of each flower stem to increase absorbency. When cutting the stems, make sure to also consider cutting them to size for your flower vase.
  3. Refresh Weekly As Needed
    Refresh Weekly As Needed: Ensure the water stays clear and free of that nasty smell that starts to brew about a week after the flowers bloom. Check the flowers weekly, and mix up a fresh batch of water solution as needed.
